WINGS November, 2003
Nov 5 - Work on fitting landing light lens to wing. 1.0 hr
Nov 6 - Cleaning up shop and searching for my 1/8" plexiglass drill bit to drill the landing light lens. Finally found drill bit and drilled lens. 5.5 hr
Nov 13 - Fit landing light lenses. 0.5 hr
Nov 14 - Work on landing lights. Trim lenses more for better fit. Attach mount clips. Put reflector together, install it, and wire it up. Put together an order for Van's. 4.0 hr + 1.0 hr doc
Trimmed another 1/4" or so off each end of the lenses, so they'll go in and out of the opening easier.
This shows how the lens attach clips are attached to the lens with double-sided tape. I thought perhaps it would be a problem with no tape at the ends, with the tips of the clips touching the plexiglas, but Don at Duckworks said this is fine.
Here is one of the 100w landing lights, all assembled and ready to go into the wing.
And here it is in the wing.
Nov 15 - Work on wiring for landing lights. Spent a couple hours researching wiring parts I need & putting together an order for wires and terminals. 7.5 hr
Nov 16 - Make up wiring labels and label the wires I've done already. Done with this for now. I won't put the landing light lenses into place until I get the wings on and adjust the landing light aiming. I put the landing light lenses into zip-lock bags to protect them. Decided to pony up the additional bucks to upgrade landing lights AGAIN (I'd already upgraded from 55w rectangular to 100w round) - this time, to get just one HID light (at $390-!) Removed one landing light and sent it back to Duckworks for upgrade/swap. Back to fuel plumbing. 1.0 hr
