AUGUST, 2007 AVIONICS, ELECTRICS, & CONTROLS
Aug 1 - Choose LEDs for Sandia AIM function. Wire "aux pump on" indicator and test OK. 2.75 hr
Aug 6 - I've been quite busy looking into rolling my old IRAs & 401Ks over into a Self Directed IRA, and looking at local real estate to buy with the SDIRA. Google "self directed IRA" to get info on how all that works. Specifically, check out Guidant Financial and Checkbook IRA. Guidant seems more polished than the other, but costs more. I went with Checkbook IRA. The whole thing seems like a good idea. I cashed out my IRAs because the stock market was getting worse every day. The Fed stepped in and made money available to failing lenders, so the stock market stopped falling badly and went back up the day AFTER I cashed out. Great timing on my part, but if the Fed hadn't stepped in (and who could have predicted THAT), it would have gotten a lot worse, which is why I bailed out. I think I lost $2000 in just the one day before the Fed stepped in. Installed Sandia AIM switch. 0.5 hr
Aug 7 - install Sandia AIM LEDs. Begin wiring LEDs. 1.25 hr
Aug 11 - Sandia AIM LEDs wiring. Red LED uses 620 ohm resistor and green uses 510 ohm. Reinstalled instrument panel and switches panel. 2.0 hr
Aug 19 - on the last engine run, the Perihelion LVAABMM warning LED wouldn't go off - troubleshooting this. 1.0 hr
Aug 23 - I've been super busy this month; IRA & RE stuff mentioned above, getting electrical service to my hangar, digging out septic tank for cleaning, managing a large logging/chipping operation on our family's tree farm, Cornish Fair, EAA newsletter, busy at my job, etc. I have worked on the plane a little, and will get those updates in ASAP. The Sandia AIM switch and indicators are installed. No time for racing (sold my race bike this summer) or kayaking, Hope you're all having a great summer.
Aug 30 - Exchanged some emails with Eric Jones at Perihelion about the LVAABMM. He's going to send me a new one.
