OCTOBER, 2009 AVIONICS, ELECTRICS, & CONTROLS
October 7 - with the prop installed and the engine running, I am now getting back into getting the avionics wired, so I can then get the canopy installed, without it being in the way of wiring the panel. Worked on GTX330 transponder wiring. Immediately ran into inconsistencies on the first connections I looked at. I emailed SteinAir to see if they can help clarify that. Then I found that I'd previously wired the Sandia encoder wrong; stupidly putting wires for both connectors onto one of the connectors. So, I redid both connectors. 2.5 hr
Oct 21 - more GTX330 transponder wiring. It seems that every wire I touch provides more confusion. Spent a bunch of time agonizing over COMM1 from Sandia encoder and taking Sandia J5 connector apart (again) to confirm how it's wired. 1.5 hr
Oct 30 - still puzzling over COMM1 from Sandia, but I guess I got it resolved. It's a twisted pair, with a return connection on the Sandia, but no serial in return on transponder. Just left the return wire half of the twisted pair dangling for now & worked on other wires. 2.5 hr
Oct 31 - well, I squeezed in a little work before the month ended. More GTX-330 wiring. Once I finally got into it, it was fun. 1.5 hr
I didn't do diddly this month. There have been a lot of other things going on, and other distractions. Even when I'm at the hangar, I'm either flying the Challenger, doing maintenance on it, or just having a hard time getting motivated on the RV. I hope to do better in November. Flying the Challenger is a lot of fun, though, and I've put in over 70 flights and 150 hours on it so far this year.
It turned out I didn't do any wiring in November, and I'm hoping for a boost in motivation in December.
