DECEMBER, 2009 AVIONICS, ELECTRICS, & CONTROLS

Dec 1 - I didn't do diddly on the plane all last month, just an engine run, so I'm hoping I can get more done this month.

Dec 4 - clean up & organize hangar & tools.  Rewired heat gun so it has a much longer power cord.  Started working on resuming wiring GTX330, but didn't actually get anywhere.   The canopy (installed for the engine runs) is in the way.  3.0 hr

Dec 5 - I removed the canopy bolts, but there's no way for me to remove the canopy by myself.  0.5 hr

Dec 6 - Karla helped me remove and store the canopy.  0.25 hr

Dec 16 - I haven't even been to the hangar in a couple weeks; low RV motivation and weather's been too lousy to fly.   I've been getting into woodturning at home, and I've made a bunch of cool pens and a few rather beautiful bowls in my basement.   I put an ad on VAF to sell the RV

Dec 17 - I'm trying hard to work up some motivation to work on the RV.  I went back to wiring the GTX330.   After I finally got a few wires installed and carefully double-checked all the wires I've done so far, I realized that a couple of them that go to multiple destinations should have been shielded twisted pairs, not individual wires.  I don't even know how one would split out shielded TP wire to two destinations.   Very discouraging.  I emailed Doug Law at SteinAir to see if he has a suggestion, and to find the cost of giving up doing the avionics wiring myself and have them do it.  It doesn't help that I designed myself such an over-complicated panel.   1.5 hr

Dec 18 - got a reply from Doug.   Will resume avionics work following his advice, next time I get out to the hangar.
